LAYERS IN PRINT
exhibition
“layers in print”, a group exhibition curated by reuben mckenzie, highlighted the unique colour layering and textural effects created by risography and brought together artists who have interpreted the technique in a variety of ways in their work. the exhibition, which took place in london, was dedicated to the distinctive style of the risographic printing process and showcased the diverse possibilities this technique offers to contemporary art.

my overarching theme for the prints in the exhibition was duality, which is reflected both in my choice of motifs and in the way i work during the creative process. the interplay of digital drawing and the analogue risograph printing technique generates a creative tension for me between two worlds - the digital and the analogue, the precise and the random or organic.
this is contrasted by the two-sidedness of appearance and the core (brugmansia) and perception and sensation (the middle of nowhere).
brugmansia

brugmansia is a plant, also known as angel‘s trumpet. it has a beautiful appearance but it is extremely poisonous. the duality - beauty and hazard - can also be found in numerous myths and legends around the world. something that is outwardly appealing often also contains a deeper truth. its properties combine vision and delusion as well as healing power and danger.

the middle
of nowhere
a place where you can feel complete tranquillity. in this print, scenic variety meets boundless vastness. a colourful place whose tranquillity also radiates a gentle melancholy that runs through the infinite widths of nature.
